The disappearance of Abby Choi, a 28-year-old Hong Kong model and influencer, ended up becoming one of the most disturbing crimes of recent years.

Abby disappeared in February 2023. Days later, police arrived at a rented home in Tai Po and made a horrifying discovery: parts of her body had been dismembered, and her legs were stored inside a refrigerator. Her skull, ribs, and hair were later found inside a large pot. According to what was presented in the case, some of the remains had been cooked with carrots and other vegetables.

A power saw, knives, a hammer, and a meat grinder were also found in the home. Police said at the time that the place may have been prepared for dismembering the body.
But behind the macabre discovery was reportedly a dispute over millions.

Abby had bought a luxury apartment for her ex-husband’s parents to live in, Alex Kwong. The property, valued at around 60 million Hong Kong dollars, was registered in her former father-in-law’s name. When she decided to sell it, a bitter dispute began. Prosecutors now argue that the man devised a plan to prevent the sale by killing Abby.
Her ex-husband, former father-in-law, and former brother-in-law are on trial for murder, and all three deny killing her. However, Alex and his brother Anthony pleaded guilty to obstructing the lawful burial of Abby’s remains.

More than three years after the discovery, the trial is seeking to determine exactly who ended Abby Choi’s life and what role each member of her former family played.
What began as a property dispute ended with one of the most unforgettable crime scenes in Hong Kong: a young missing model and a pot that concealed part of the answer.
