“How disrespectful”: Outrage over the influencer who turned a collection center in Venezuela into her photo shoot

Venezuela was still counting its dead. The earthquakes of June 24, measuring 7.2 and 7.5, left nearly 1,700 dead in Caracas and La Guaira. In the midst of that pain, a collection center was receiving boxes of water and food for the families who had lost everything.

Then Paola Faria showed up. The influencer stood in front of the donations, smiled, blew kisses to the camera, and posed as if she were on a red carpet. A man nearby could not tolerate it and confronted her in front of everyone: ‘What are you looking for here?’. She, far from feeling uncomfortable, complained that they were ruining ‘the photo’ and kept posing.

The video went viral within hours: she was accused of taking advantage, of stealing the spotlight in the middle of someone else’s tragedy. Faria later apologized, claiming that the clip was taken out of context. Her Instagram account disappeared shortly afterward, with no official explanation.
