At the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, a camera captured the moment when P. Diddy approached Daveigh Chase, who was 12 at the time, and invited her to one of his post-event parties. The video remained archived for years until the legal scandal surrounding the producer brought it back to the surface.

Chase arrived at that moment as one of the most recognizable figures of her generation: she was the voice of Lilo in Lilo & Stitch, had voiced Chihiro in Spirited Away, and had starred in The Ring. She was 12 years old and had a career built on characters that millions of children knew by heart. It was never confirmed whether she attended that party or what happened after that interaction. That lack of an answer is precisely what keeps the video circulating.

What the record does show is that, over time, Chase began disappearing from high-profile projects. Her appearances became sporadic, her credits smaller. Whether it was a choice, a consequence, or simply the statistically most common fate for Hollywood child stars is something she has never publicly explained. The video is still there. The answer is not. Unfortunately, Chase died as a result of sepsis after suffering from meningitis, on June 16, 2026. She was experiencing homelessness and struggling with substance abuse issues.
