Valentina Gómez posted a video after the earthquake in Colombia and did not mince her words.
“When it was time to help, feminists disappeared”, she said to the camera, while claiming that she only saw men removing rubble and that “feminism proved it is useless”.
Gómez, 26, is a Colombian-American political activist based in the United States, a former Republican candidate for Congress in Texas and for Missouri Secretary of State. In her speech, she also lashed out at gender-fluid people and called for the country to unite “under God”.
The video was flooded with angry comments. Many users reminded her that helping in an emergency has no gender, and that reducing a tragedy to an excuse to attack a social movement only adds division at a time when Colombia needs unity, not finger-pointing. What do you think?
