Andrea arrived at Sagunto Hospital in November 2019 suffering from severe pain and high blood pressure. At 41 weeks pregnant, doctors decided to induce labor, but what was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of her life ended in tragedy.

The medical staff left her alone while she was dilating and forced her to push even though she was not having strong enough contractions. “I didn’t know if they were doing things wrong because I was a first-time mother,” Andrea recalled about that endless day.

Little Neizan suffered a critical lack of oxygen after doctors incorrectly used a vacuum extractor during delivery. Today, the child lives with an 87% disability and is unable to walk or speak. Because of this chain of medical errors, the court ordered a historic compensation payment of 13.3 million euros.

Although the money will help pay for therapies and an adapted home, the pain remains. “I don’t know what happened to the people who treated me, I think they’re still working,” the mother said sadly, remembering that the emergency C-section came far too late. In the end, this record-breaking ruling in Spain seeks to compensate for a negligence that stole the child’s future.
