Half the world opened Google to look up where Cape Verde is. The other half was watching it on TV… and apparently wasn’t very convinced by the answer they gave 😂

A host on the Mexican news program Telediario decided to explain, right in the middle of coverage of the 2026 World Cup, the location of the African archipelago that had drawn 0-0 with Spain and 2-2 with Uruguay, making its World Cup debut for the first time ever. The result was so memorable that the clip shot across social media before the segment was even over. Not really knowing the location, she said: it’s in “our hearts”.

Cape Verde, just in case, is 10 volcanic islands in the Atlantic, about 600 kilometers off the west coast of Africa, with barely 600 thousand inhabitants and a 40-year-old goalkeeper —Vozinha— who became the tournament’s unexpected hero. 🗺️⚽

Ironically, the episode came just as “Cape Verde” was the most popular search on Google in several countries.
