Lucy Letby was working the night shift at Countess of Chester Hospital in England when something started not to add up.
Between 2015 and 2016, seven babies died in her ward, and she was the only nurse present in each of those cases. She was dismissed in 2016, arrested in 2020, and in 2023 a jury found her guilty of murder. Prosecutors said that she gave them too much milk, injected air into them, or tampered with their fluids until they collapsed. At her home, they found notes in which she herself had written that she had killed them on purpose — and on the same sheet, that she had done nothing wrong.
Today she is serving 15 life sentences at the high-security HMP Low Newton prison in Durham, alongside some of Britain’s most dangerous female murderers. Her appeal was rejected, but a group of doctors maintains that the babies died of natural causes. Her own parents said they will not watch the documentary Netflix made about her: they fear the story will completely destroy them.
