A Brazilian merchant bet everything on a final that never came. He bought shirts, flags, and merchandise in huge quantities, figuring that World Cup excitement would drive his sales all the way to the last match.

But Brazil was eliminated, and with that defeat his business plan vanished as well. In the video he recorded, his voice cracking with helplessness, he did not ask for comfort: he demanded an answer. “Who is going to pay for this here?”, he repeated while showing shelves full of merchandise that no one wanted to buy anymore.

The recording went viral within hours. Some users sympathized with his financial loss, estimated at thousands of dollars in unsold inventory. Others, however, responded with memes and jokes, turning his outburst into the tournament’s unintended punchline. Between mockery and empathy, one question lingered: who is responsible when football also plays with the economy of ordinary people?
