Basically, that little hair received a confusing hormonal or genetic signal that caused it to skip the “resting” phase and stay in the “growth” (anagen) phase for much longer than its neighbors.
Triggering factors:
Hormones: Changes in testosterone or estrogen levels can “activate” certain follicles.
Cellular stress: Sometimes, a follicle simply goes haywire due to minor trauma or inflammation.
Genetics: If your parents had this, it’s very likely that you’ll inherit these rebellious hairs too.
Even if you pluck it out, that follicle will likely retain its rebellious memory and grow just as long again in a few months or years. It’s part of the charm of our biological chaos. 😂
