In Callao, Peru, a woman was crying next to her husband’s coffin. Seconds later, that same crying turned into twerking to the rhythm of “En la Cama”, the classic by Nicky Jam and Daddy Yankee.

The music was not coming from just any speaker: it was being played live by Cristian Huancahuari, known as “El Cangri del Callao”, a Daddy Yankee impersonator who offers musical shows at wakes as part of his business. He himself uploaded the video to his social media with a message dedicated to “my uncle Jean Ñanga”, the man bid farewell to with tears and dancing.

The clip immediately went viral and split users into two camps. Some argued that everyone experiences grief however they can, with laughter, crying, and even reggaeton. Others called it a total lack of respect for the memory of the deceased. What about you, do you see it as a valid way to say goodbye or as a sign of disrespect?
