“Will I regret not having children?”: a woman fears regretting not having children and asks those who made that decision

She was 36 and had a question that kept her awake at night.

In July, she uploaded a video to TikTok asking something simple: what is life really like without children once you’ve passed 50? She was happily married, determined not to become a mother, but fear of future loneliness haunted her. In two days, the video surpassed 2,3 million views.

The responses came in by the thousands. A 49-year-old woman spoke of the ocean, her husband, and two dogs, without a drop of regret. Another told of her neighbor, who died in her eighties with a house of her own, a luxury car, and a different Hermès scarf for each day of the week: when they went through her things after her death, they found not a trace of regret. Mothers also weighed in, and many agreed on one thing: you would be an excellent mother, but not necessarily a happy one. An Australian study found that only one in four women without children regrets that decision over the years.

Rach: I’m 42 and have two children. I adore them. Stay child-free.

Kayyywindz6669: She would be a GREAT mom. But she wouldn’t be a HAPPY mom. These comments confirm it, unfortunately.
