On a rainy Tuesday, Prince William walked through the grounds of Eton College with his hands full: one held the umbrella, while the other kept pace with his 13-year-old son George.
It was September 8, 2026. Behind them, Kate Middleton, also 44, brought the family scene to a close. They had walked only a few minutes from their home at Forest Lodge, inside Windsor Great Park, to the gates of the most famous boarding school in the world.
There, the headmaster, Simon Henderson, awaited them with a formal greeting for the future king.
Sir Nicholas Coleridge, the institution’s rector, also joined them. Together, the three helped George settle into his new room, the same kind of room his father occupied between 1995 and 2000.
Because in 1995, another 13-year-old boy crossed those same gates. Princess Diana and the then-Prince Charles led him by the hand. That boy was William.
Thirty-one years later, Diana is no longer there to see it. But her son is, walking the same path, under the same English rain.
William has a packed schedule: the next day he travels to Oslo for the funeral of King Harald V of Norway. Even so, he stayed at Eton until he saw George settled in.
