Wisin didn’t release an album. He launched a university.
The Puerto Rican artist, one half of the historic duo Wisin y Yandel, introduced the University of Perreo, a project that seeks to study and preserve the history of reggaeton after more than thirty years of global expansion. Among the academic areas he has already previewed are Applied Rhythm, History of Reggaeton, and Epistemology of Flow, as well as a Center for Advanced Studies in Cadence, Dembow, and Urban Culture.
“Our history is too big to remain only on stages”, explained the artist, who said he feels a responsibility to protect the legacy of a movement that transformed the music industry. The institution has not yet opened formal enrollment, but it has already enabled a pre-admission registration for those who want to be part of its first generations, with future plans for scholarships and international exchanges.
