With Haaland masks: Mexico celebrates with Norway’s “Viking row”

Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0 at Estadio Azteca and achieved something that hadn’t happened since 1986: getting past a knockout round at a World Cup. 🇲🇽

But what went viral wasn’t the result, but what happened afterward in the locker room. Guillermo Ochoa posted a video to his Instagram showing the whole team wearing Erling Haaland masks, rowing to the beat of a trash can as a drum, copying Norway’s famous ‘Viking row.’ Santiago Giménez also shared it.

Some thought it was mockery. But Haaland himself reacted to the video and defused any controversy with humor. Now Mexico is preparing to face England on Sunday, July 5, and if everything stays on course, it could meet Norway in the quarterfinals. 🏆
