In a humble home in the Philippines, Crisanto Bernardo’s children didn’t want their dad’s birthday to go unnoticed.

With no money for fancy decorations, Melody Silang, the eldest daughter, and her younger siblings got to work with the only thing they had on hand: transparent plastic bags.

With string and inflated plastic bags, the children decorated their modest home to celebrate their father’s birthday. They hung the inflated bags from the ceiling of their house, which surprised and deeply moved their dad.

According to Melody, the children also found time to make a birthday cake for their dad, but they only used eggs to prepare it.

“This touched my heart. They made balloons with plastic bags and wrote: ‘happy birthday dad’ and they even made an egg cake,” the father said.

For these little ones, the “balloon” was the least important thing; what mattered was that their dad knew he is their hero.
