Not even playing in the World Cup… Did Chile’s real passion move to the World Cup stickers? 🤔 Chile was left out of the 2026 World Cup for the third straight time. And even so, on May 31, more than 8,000 people filled La Florida’s Bicentenario Stadium in Santiago, as if a final were being played.
There was no ball or field with players. There were tables, packs, and thousands of hands looking for that sticker they were missing to complete the album.
The Municipality of La Florida organized the ‘Cambiatón’ with music, food trucks, and even invited former footballers, but the real star was paper: Chile experienced such a craze for the World Cup album that the factories in Brazil couldn’t keep up and packs were scarce throughout the country.
Most of the attendees were children. And that’s the key to it all: they didn’t need to see their national team qualify to feel that the World Cup was theirs too.
