“A large amount of suitable habitat for plants will disappear by the end of the century. If our priority is to reduce the phenomenon, we have to cut our carbon emissions”, they commented from the University of California, Davis UC, United States.

The research published by the journal Science determined that 16% of plants worldwide will become extinct after losing 90% of their habitat due to climate change.

High extinction rates will occur in southern Europe, the western United States, and southern Australia. Among the species, California selaginella, more than 400 years old, and Australia’s eucalyptus, which accounts for 80% of the continent’s native forest, would disappear.

Another aspect of the article is that the species that are saved will begin to move to other habitats, fostering a climate of biodiversity. Junna Wang, a researcher who participated in the project, commented that “wetlands will increase their species richness in places such as the eastern United States, India, Southeast Asia, and southern South America”.
