In 2016, a visit to the Badaling Wildlife World safari in Beijing ended in tragedy after a woman got out of her vehicle, in an area where doing so was strictly forbidden, following a family argument.
According to reports, the woman surnamed Zhao was attacked just a few seconds later by a Siberian tiger that dragged her off the road. Her mother tried to help her, but she was also reached by another tiger and died at the scene. Zhao survived with serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, while her husband and son, who remained inside the vehicle, were unharmed.
The authorities and the park stated that the animals never left the designated area and reminded that there were visible warnings not to leave the car. After the incident, the case sparked debate about safety measures and the park’s responsibility.
