Kitty Hinde was 19 when the glaucoma she had suffered from since childhood took away her sight completely.
She had been diagnosed after a routine examination and spent years using eye drops, drainage tubes and undergoing a corneal transplant at 14 that restored part of her vision for barely two years, until her body rejected it. Last spring, she began waking up some days unable to see anything. At first, it happened once a month. Then once a week. Now it happens every day.
What no one expected was that just then, in May 2023, she met Sam, a sound engineer from Manchester, at a nightclub. When he found out that she was losing her sight, he didn’t walk away: he stayed. Today, he describes entire series to her scene by scene, a 20-minute episode takes them hours, and she says that losing her sight brought them closer than she ever imagined. The only thing that breaks her heart is not being able to look into his eyes.
