A simple piece of dog kibble ended up destroying the life of Jayme Stephen, a 39-year-old woman from New Pitsligo, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It all happened in October 2024, when she accidentally stepped on her pet’s food and suffered a small wound on her foot.

Although it seemed like something minor, the injury turned into a devastating infection due to the type 1 diabetes and nerve damage she suffered from. In just five days she developed sepsis and necrosis, so she was rushed to the hospital and underwent three operations.

Doctors tried to save her leg, but in the end they had to amputate it to prevent the infection from continuing to spread through her body.
