Sophie Whitehurst did not sleep all night.
She stayed awake caring for Harper, her youngest daughter, at her home in Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom. In the morning, exhausted, she decided to lie down for a while before watching the football match with Connor, her 15-year-old son. She was 33 years old and had three children: Connor, 16-year-old Allie-May, and baby Harper.
Connor went to look for her and found her unconscious, not breathing. He began resuscitation efforts while Allie-May ran to get help. Among the neighbors who arrived was Sophia Berrow, 20, a veterinary assistant student with first-aid knowledge. Together, they moved Sophie from the bed to the floor and continued CPR for 18 minutes, until the paramedics arrived.
They worked on her for nearly another half hour. They could not revive her. Authorities have yet to determine what caused the sudden death of a woman who, until that morning, appeared completely healthy.
