Corie Walsh spent the morning talking about Lindsay Clancy with her friends.
It was 12:30 p.m. on September 1 in Frankfort, Illinois, when she closed the group chat where she had been discussing the trial of the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children. Three and a half hours later, a 17-year-old neighbor found her son Barrett, just 2 years old, hanging in the basement of the family home. She lowered him, called 911, and attempted to resuscitate him. She was unsuccessful.
The same neighbor later found Walsh in the main bathroom, with a knife in her hand, apparently attempting to harm herself. She took the weapon away before the police arrived. According to the detention petition filed by the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, Walsh told officers that she had killed her son because he was the ‘devil’ and the ‘antichrist’.
The medical examiner confirmed that Barrett died from asphyxiation caused by a ligature around his neck. The family’s attorney, Andrea Lyon, maintains that Walsh was experiencing a psychotic episode. Authorities have not confirmed that the Clancy case triggered the crime, but messages from that same morning are already part of the court record.
