Serena Dolnics is 32 years old and lives in Valparaiso, Indiana, about 80 kilometers from Chicago. On Sunday night, police arrived at her home after relatives were unable to contact her father, 69-year-old Gregory Dolnics. What they found was a scene that even the most experienced investigators rarely witness.
Gregory was lying on the floor with stab wounds to his head, face, neck, and hands. His heart had been removed from his body and placed on his own stomach. Three bloodstained knives were found inside the home. Serena was in the house, covered in blood, with cuts on her hands that she attributed to gardening tools.
She told police that she and her father ‘get along very well’ and that she had not seen him injured at any point. The autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds, and the case was recorded as a homicide. She remains detained without bail, while her sister Jennifer Naccarato is asking for help covering the cost of their father’s funeral.
