“It is the best decision I have ever made”, said Brynne, 28, when she asked to have her entire female reproductive system removed.
The pressure to have children is felt by fewer and fewer women nowadays, and while in the past having offspring and being housewives was practically an obligation, many of them now forgo this decision and prefer to prioritize other things in their lives.
Such is the case of Brynne Zuri Hunt, who asked her doctors to remove her entire reproductive system at age 28 because she never had the desire to have babies.

As she explained to Mirror, this woman suffered for the past 10 years from an undiagnosed chronic condition that caused her a great deal of pain. With heavy and prolonged periods, Brynne suffered severe cramps; however, many doctors rejected the option of removing her uterus because she was so young.
The young actress was determined to undergo surgery and end her pain, especially because she never had the idea of having children, so the issue of babies was not a complication.

“I have never had the maternal instincts that other women in my family have”, Brynne said. “I am a great aunt, and I love my nieces and nephews, and I adore my friends’ children too, but motherhood has never been for me”, she added.
Due to a religious environment and the terrible pregnancies of the women in her family, Brynne saw the idea of having children as increasingly distant. For her, the two dogs and two cats she has are enough, and she cares for and treats them like children.

On the other hand, it was that undiagnosed chronic pain since she turned 16 that led her to consider a hysterectomy as an option. However, it was not an easy path to get the surgery.
Doctors’ rejection
After advocating for a hysterectomy for years, Brynne often received a lot of criticism from medical professionals: “It took me so long to get to this point, and many medical professionals told me that I would not know whether I might ever want to have children”.
“I received all the usual comments like ‘what if your partner wants to have children?’, ‘you just have not met the right man yet’. It was incredibly exasperating and upsetting, especially when no one was properly diagnosing the cause of my extreme periods and cramps”, she said about her struggle.

The male doctors who treated her only prescribed different contraceptives, including a variety of pills, three different IUDs, and the implant, but surgery was never an option to stop her pain.
Everything changed when, thanks to health insurance, she was able to see an obstetrician-gynecologist, who “listened to my concerns and allowed me to explain that it has never been my desire to have children”.
Finally, at the second appointment with the gynecologist, her surgery had already been scheduled: “I felt as if a great weight had been lifted off my shoulders”.
On August 2, Brynne underwent a complete hysterectomy and had her entire reproductive system removed, except for her ovaries for hormonal reasons, and she now hopes for a life without children and without pain.

When asked what her family thinks about the decision, the woman explains that they have been very supportive, even though it came as a surprise to many.
