Woman slept in a shelter hugging a pit bull with terminal cancer so he would not die alone

Watson was a pit bull nobody wanted. He had been found wandering alone on the streets of Philadelphia, with a huge tumor on his back and sores that revealed months of neglect.

When Janine Guido, founder of the Speranza Animal Rescue shelter, took him in, the veterinarian had already given the diagnosis: the cancer was too advanced to try anything. All that was left was to wait.

Instead of leaving him in a cage that night, Janine spread some blankets on the floor and lay down beside him. She spoke softly to him, repeated that he was loved, that he was not alone, and fell asleep without letting go of him.

The next day, Watson got up, took a few weak laps, and lay down again.

He died right there, in the arms of the woman who decided that no animal deserves to leave without company. 💔🥺
