Jennifer Mulford has a routine that no one in her circle expected at age 40.

In Atlanta, every two hours, she stops whatever she is doing to breastfeed her boyfriend Brad Leeson. There is no baby involved. What they practice is called dry breastfeeding, a technique within what is known as Adult Breastfeeding Relationships. Her body still does not produce milk, but the constant stimulation, combined with three daily cups of a tea called Mother’s Milk, aims to trigger milk production within an estimated few months.

Jennifer came to this after feeling envious of the emotional bond this practice created in other couples. She spent years looking for a partner in forums and blogs, without success, until she reconnected with Brad, an old school boyfriend, and proposed the project to him. He agreed immediately. She says she would never do it in public, but he would be willing to. “At that moment we become one”, she says, and maintains that no bond compares with that feeling of calm.
