A week before her wedding, Rebeca started looking at photos of brides getting ready amid laughter, robes, and champagne with their friends.
She was studying Computer Engineering in Brazil and was 24 years old. There were 4 women among the 60 students in her class; the other 56 were men. Her female friends lived far away and, she said, the scene made her a little sad: she wasn’t going to have anything like that.
But the sadness didn’t last long. She called five friends from university and asked them to pose as her bridesmaids. They happily agreed. The pink satin robes, cucumber slices over their eyes, and poses typical of any bridal preparation were all there.
Photographer Fernando Duque captured every moment, and Rebeca uploaded the images to her Facebook without imagining what would happen next. They went viral. Would you have had the courage to do the same?
