In the Aguas Negras area of Curicó, Chile, she kept her mother’s mummified body hidden for years while continuing to collect her Montepío pension from the National Defense Provident Fund.
To sustain the fraud, she went so far as to falsify power-of-attorney documents and use her deceased mother’s fingerprint before Capredena, as confirmed by Curicó chief prosecutor Miguel Gajardo.
The case came to light in 2021, when what lay behind those walls was discovered. Now, after a trial marked by a failed attempt to claim mental incompetence, the court found her guilty. The exact sentence will be announced on September 25.
