Lula da Silva set out to defend ending the 6×1 work schedule and ended up at the center of a storm.

In an interview with the SBT network, Brazil’s president and candidate for reelection said that, for women, the day off at home “is, in reality, when they work the most, because they have to clean everything that has piled up during the week”. His proposal is to move from six working days to five, with two days off and no pay cut.

The clip went viral just five days before the runoff on October 25 against Flávio Bolsonaro. Javier Milei shared it on X and called him a “macho chauvinist”. Criticism, memes, and irony flooded social media.

Was it a sexist slip or a complaint taken out of context? 🤔
