Hilary Swank is 52 and expecting her third child. She announced it on Wednesday with a family video on Instagram, where she showed her baby bump, and the following day she sat down on The Drew Barrymore Show to talk about what people ask her most. “There is a lot of backlash against women who have children later in life, but not men, which is interesting”, she said.

Barrymore picked up on that. Men have babies at 80 and nobody says anything, and people weren’t always kind to her either when she became a mom at 40. Swank said a woman confronted her with a “How dare you? You’re too old”. The woman explained that her father was her favorite person and that he died when she was just over 20 years old. Swank, who also lost her father, didn’t defend herself: “I’d rather be born and have that favorite person, and experience that, than never have been born”. The twins Aya and Ohm arrived in 2023, when she was 48.
Is it selfish to become a mother at 52, or is it the same old double standard? Does age matter more, or how much love you give?
