For years, Woody Harrelson was convinced that marriage and long-term relationships weren’t for him. His love life had been unstable, and the actor himself said he didn’t believe in long-term monogamy. Everything changed when he met Laura Louie.
The story began in 1987, when Louie attended a taping of Cheers as a spectator. Harrelson needed an assistant, and she ended up taking the job. What began as a strictly professional relationship gradually turned into a friendship and, after several years, something more.
Harrelson even tried to hide his feelings. But during a trip to Africa, he realized he couldn’t stop thinking about her. When he returned, he wrote her a song to confess his feelings. Laura’s response surprised him: she had been in love with him for two and a half years.
The couple built a family and had three daughters. Finally, in 2008, after more than two decades together, they married in an intimate ceremony in Maui.
For Harrelson, becoming a husband and father meant a profound change. Amid years marked by excesses and conflicts, he said that Laura and his daughters helped him rebuild his life.
“She believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. She saved my life without raising her voice even once”, the actor confessed.
