Chen ‘Yingying’ Ziyi filmed videos of herself eating in front of the camera and said goodbye to her followers with a calm smile.
She was 24 years old, her real name was Chen Ziyi, and she had been struggling for some time with severe hypokalemia, the result of years of recorded meals without rest, sleepless nights, and a body that could no longer take it. In her last post, she thanked her fans for their concern and said she would start streaming again as soon as she recovered.
She did not live to fulfill that promise. She died on August 17 in China, just three days after that video, according to her family, who confirmed it in an obituary published on September 4. Before becoming a streamer, she already had problems eating, but the job forced her to try dish after dish, day after day, until her body said enough. She herself had said it: making money matters, but health matters just as much.
