Jim Carrey wasn’t talking about himself. He was talking about his father.
It was May 2014, and the actor was standing before the graduating class of Maharishi University of Management in Iowa, United States, as they were about to begin a new chapter. They were afraid of making mistakes, like everyone else. And Carrey chose to tell them what that fear looks like in real life: his father dreamed of being a comedian, but ended up choosing a job that seemed safer. Years later, he lost that job.

From that story, he drew his lesson: even the path that seems most stable can bring difficulties, and we can’t control everything that will happen tomorrow. We can decide how we live in the present and how we approach each opportunity. “The decisions we make in this moment are based on love or fear”, he told them. And also: “You can spend your whole life worrying about the future, but what really matters is what’s happening now”.
Pursuing what you truly want, he reminded them, begins with daring to take the first step. 🎭
