Antonela Roccuzzo asks Mateo, 8 years old, if he is going to train. The boy, with complete childish honesty, replies that he is, but that “it’s mandatory”. That’s when Messi appears.
Without raising his voice or giving a long speech, the captain left him with a phrase that sums up an entire career: “You can’t come just to play, you have to train to play”. The scene took place on the way to the Florida Blue Training Center, the Inter Miami facility where Messi’s children also play in the youth divisions.
