Penélope Cruz arrived in Los Angeles with a round-trip ticket, knowing no one. She only had a two-month film contract and the phone number of a Mexican compatriot she had never seen in person: Salma Hayek.

Salma picked her up at the airport. She told her something Penélope repeats to this day: “You’re not going to a hotel, you’re coming to my house. This is hard at first and you’re going to feel very lonely”.

Cruz accepted, and that first night she was so afraid that she ended up sleeping in Salma’s room, holding her hand.

Thirty years of sisterhood were born from that airport.

Today, Salma says that no one understands her better than Penélope, because they both walked the same path in Hollywood, crossed paths in the same dream and, even while competing for the same roles, never let go of the hand they held that first night 🤍
