Luis Fernando Díaz is 35 years old and has just become the first professional in his family.
Instead of a gown and cap, he chose a clown costume to receive his veterinary medicine degree at the University of Antioquia. It was not a whim: his father, Fernando Díaz, dressed that way for years to make people laugh on the streets of Medellín, while also selling on buses and singing to support his seven children.
Luis Fernando began his degree in 2013 and had to pause it because of the pandemic and the need to work. He resumed it in 2024 and completed his internship in Caicedo, Antioquia, never letting go of the image of his father as the driving force that kept him from giving up. That diploma, he says, is not his alone: it is recognition for a man who turned daily effort into the best legacy he could leave him.
