In Durango, Mexico, the story of Kevin González, an 18-year-old young man, has deeply moved social media, exposing the most painful and restrictive side of immigration policies.
Kevin was diagnosed with terminal cancer (stage 4). As his health rapidly deteriorated, his greatest pain was not physical, but the absence of his parents, who were in the United States and could not return due to their legal situation and fear of immigration custody.
His final wish was simple, but seemed impossible: to hug Mom and Dad again.
After an intense media campaign and public pressure, immigration authorities finally granted their release so the parents could travel to Mexico.
Kevin’s parents achieved that long-awaited eternal embrace, full of tears and relief, fulfilling the young Mexican’s wish.
Sadly, just a few hours after that beautiful moment and with his heart full of emotion, Kevin died at home surrounded by the people he loved most.
