It all started as a harmless joke.

On Monday, August 17, dozens of kids gathered at Plaza Mitre in Mar del Plata to compete in “aura farming”, the viral game where the winner is whoever has the most charisma through poses and attitude. Children, teenagers, and adults were competing, with a crowd of curious onlookers watching and laughing. Everything was unfolding normally, like any other holiday afternoon in the plaza.

Until a group of adult men, who have not been identified so far, appeared among the crowd and began throwing stones and bottles at the younger participants. According to witnesses quoted by La Nación, they laughed as they did it. Shortly afterward, about three teenagers joined in the attacks. The scene turned into people running and shouting before the crowd eventually dispersed.

So far, there has been no official confirmation of injuries, arrests, or the identities of those who started the assault. A game intended to provide a bit of laughter in the plaza ended up revealing the most violent side of those who were merely watching.
