Chase Merriweather was just 3 years old when septic shock caused his organs to fail. To save his life, doctors had to amputate both his arms and both his legs. He is now 16 and a runner on the Wissahickon High School track and field team in Ambler, Pennsylvania.
Before finding his place on the track, he tried baseball, football, swimming, and basketball. But something clicked when he started running: he recently qualified with his team for the PIAA state championship at Shippensburg University, and won his 400-meter event with a time of 55.76 seconds.
His younger brother, Cassius, describes him in a single phrase: he says he has lightning speed. Chase already has his sights set on Los Angeles 2028, with a dream he will not compromise on: standing on the Paralympic podium and taking home gold. 🥇
