Francesca was 17 years old when the fire took her skin and nearly her life.
She was one of the fourteen Italian women injured in the fire at the Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, that January 1. She was transferred to Niguarda’s major burns unit in Milan, and stayed there for more than 200 days. Bandages, a walker she learned to master step by step, and a 17th birthday she celebrated with friends inside those white walls.
In mid-August, she finally left. And instead of keeping the story to herself, she uploaded it to TikTok: her hospital bed, her first steps, the hug with her family as she crossed the door can all be seen. She wrote a sentence that sums it all up: she went from zero to becoming her own heroine. The video surpassed 291.000 likes, and thousands of comments celebrate something no treatment can provide on its own: the will to start over.
