Your TV is off. Or so you think.
Gamers Nexus, a technology-focused channel, claimed to have found software vulnerabilities in LG Smart TVs that allow them to record audio directly through the microphone, even in standby mode. The finding doesn’t end there: the researchers also confirmed that these TVs scan the home’s Wi-Fi network, detecting which other devices are connected, their IP addresses, and even their approximate location. All of this happens thanks to Automatic Content Recognition (ACR), a feature that usually comes enabled by default and that most people accept without realizing it when they quickly agree to the terms and conditions.
LG responded with two statements denying that it records conversations continuously, clarifying that ACR operates with the user’s consent 🔒
