An environmental report circulated again due to a warning about hazardous chemicals in clothing from major brands. Among the companies analyzed was Zara, which was flagged at the time for garments in which substances were detected that could break down into compounds associated with hormonal or carcinogenic risks.
The investigation reviewed 141 items from 20 international brands and found NPEs, phthalates, and traces of amines linked to certain azo dyes. The important point is that this does not mean wearing a specific garment directly causes cancer, but rather that these substances raise concerns about health, the environment, and water pollution.
After public pressure, Inditex committed to eliminating hazardous substances from its supply chain. The article is better understood as context about fast fashion, textile chemicals, and controls, rather than as a current undated alarm.
