During her first days of life, Alba had already been rejected more than 20 times. She was born in Italy with Down syndrome and many families decided not to adopt her, partly because of her condition. Her story seemed destined to be one of growing up without a home… until someone appeared who wasn’t in the “traditional plans.”

Luca Trapanese, a single and openly gay man from Naples, had spent years working with people with disabilities and had always wanted to be a father. In 2017, he decided to start the adoption process and learned about Alba’s case.

Against all odds, and in a system where it’s not common for single men to adopt, Luca managed to become her father. Since then, he has shared his day-to-day life, showing an ordinary life and dismantling prejudices about fatherhood, adoption, and disability.

Today, the story of Alba and Luca is traveling around the world as a reminder that sometimes what many reject… can become the greatest act of love.
