Ceri Menai-Davies completed the London Marathon with a tribute to his son Hugh, who died of cancer at the age of 6 in 2021. During the 42 kilometers, he ran with the child’s shoes hanging around his neck.

On his shirt it read: “My name is Ceri. These are the shoes of my six-year-old son Hugh. He died before I could run this marathon. Today, he finishes it with me.” The message moved thousands of people 🥺.

The father, accompanied by former Welsh footballer Aaron Ramsey, took part to raise funds for It’s Never You, an organization created together with his wife to support families with children who are sick with cancer.

Hugh had been diagnosed in 2020 and died after a year of treatments. Before he passed away, he knew that his father would run a marathon, but he didn’t live to see it.
