Two teenagers suffered serious injuries after detonating what they believed was a firework, but was actually a homemade explosive device. The incident occurred in Richmond, United States, when they were trying to light the object inside a home.

The device suddenly exploded while they were handling it. As a result, 17-year-old Carter Grabowski lost both hands and suffered multiple injuries, while Preston Sloan was left blind in one eye and with severe damage to his face and hands.
Family members said the device had been given to them as if it were just a simple firework, with no warnings about how dangerous it was. After the incident, both were hospitalized and face a long recovery process.

The case raised concern about the risks of handling homemade explosives and the lack of information about their origin.
