Briel Adams-Wheatley was born without arms or legs, but that never stopped her from building a life of her own, falling in love, and sharing her story with millions of people on social media. Today she posts content with her husband Adam, although there is one question many people won’t stop asking them.
The doubt is not only about her disability, but about something much more personal. Briel met Adam on Tinder in 2020 and, at that time, she was still living as a man. Some time after getting married, she decided to begin her transition and he was the first person to know.
In a video, Briel said she had already talked to him about the topic before the marriage, although she still didn’t know if she felt ready to take that step publicly. Adam, for his part, explained that for him, what mattered did not change: he fell in love with her, with who she was, not with a label.
That does not mean everything was easy or automatic. Adam admitted that at first he would get confused with the pronouns, because at home he used some and in front of other people he had to use others, depending on who already knew. Then came the name change, the wigs, and a whole learning process.
But maybe that’s why the story drew so much attention. Not because it is perfect or because they want to sell it as a fairy tale, but because it shows a couple trying to do things right, with patience, mistakes, and affection. And that, in the end, says quite a bit more than any uncomfortable answer people ask them on social media.
