A viral video on social media sparked outrage in Córdoba after a young man threw a large rock into the funnel of the San Roque Dam, an iconic structure with more than 80 years of history. The incident, recorded and shared on TikTok, showed the rock striking the concrete structure, causing damage to a key piece of the province’s heritage.
Following the spread of the video, police arrested the perpetrator, a 20-year-old man, who was placed at the disposal of the courts in Villa Carlos Paz. According to authorities, he could be charged with “aggravated damage and violation of quarantine,” as he did not reside in the area at the time of the incident. The case also involved the person who filmed the scene, considered a participant for having shared it.
The episode was described as an act of vandalism and required a special operation to inspect the structure and remove the rock, with specialists descending more than 40 meters using rope access techniques. Although impact marks were detected, no serious structural cracks were found, but authorities warned about the risk of imitation and the potential damage to this iconic tourist landmark.
