Moisés Martínez, a 28-year-old Uruguayan man, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing his father with 14 gunshots, after finding out that he had sexually abused two of his sisters for years and had mistreated his mother.

The incident occurred in May 2025 and he has been in prison since then, but he was recently granted house arrest – to spend time with his children – while he awaits his final sentence.

Moisés was a victim of abuse and torture by his father, which shaped the context of the crime. One of his sisters recounted that she was raped 60 times, while his mother lost her teeth after multiple beatings while she was pregnant.

Although Martínez was found guilty of parricide, his story reopened the discussion about the limits of self-defense in cases of domestic violence and continues to generate divided opinions between those who condemn the act and those who consider the context of abuse as a determining factor.
