A flamingo died just hours after being found in critical condition in the town of Arahal, Spain, after going without specialized care while efforts were made to coordinate its rescue.
The bird was found on the street by a local resident and taken to a police station, as it could not fly and was extremely weak. According to the Local Police, over the weekend they tried to contact two wildlife rescue centers, but received no response.
While waiting for help, the flamingo remained at the police station, where officers improvised a bag of water so it could stay hydrated, but it could barely stand, dying less than 24 hours after being found.
The case sparked numerous reactions on social media, where users questioned the delay in providing care.
