The “Human Clapper”
Suspended upside down inside the immense bell, and completely topless, Holzinger swings back and forth, striking the metal walls with her own breasts to produce sound. The work seeks to explore physical endurance, pain, and the human body’s relationship with inanimate objects of great historical and religious significance. It is an act of pure physical strength and vulnerability at the same time.
Provocation or Genius?
Holzinger is known for her performances in which the female body is displayed without taboos, performing physical feats that defy gravity and the viewer’s comfort. Although for many it is a display of empowerment and strength, controversy on social media was quick to follow, especially regarding the use of nudity in public or cultural spaces.
